In-Game Biography[]

X-Men Legends[]

"Real Name: Piotr Nikolaievitch Rasputin

A native of Siberia, Russian
[sic], Piotr--or Peter as his American friends call him--was content to work the fields of a collective farm alongside his family. But then, there was the fateful day when an out of control tractor raced towards his sister, Illyana. Without thinking, Peter threw himself in front of the heavy machine. Then suddenly, much to his surprise, Peter's body transformed into living metal of incredible strength and he easily stopped the tractor. Shortly thereafter, Professor Charles Xavier visited the farm and convinced the young Russian to join his team of X-Men.

When in his metal state, his body is practically invulnerable; able to withstand bullets, explosions of more than 400lb of TNT and heat up to 12,000 degrees Fahrenheit. He is one of the strongest X-Men, capable of battling even Juggernaut in hand-to-hand combat.

X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse[]

"The Russian Piotr Nikolaievitch Rasputin is a giant of a man even without his mutant powers - but when he does transform his body into an organic metal he becomes much bigger and stronger. He knew nothing of his powers until the fateful day when a runaway tractor threatened to crush his sister. Without thinking Piotr, or Pete as his English friends call him, rushed to save his sister - it was then that his body turned to steel and he stopped the tractor with brute strength.

Shortly after this event Professor Xavier came to Russia and persuaded Pete to join his international team of X-Men. He accepted the invitation and was given the code name Colossus.

Friendly and outgoing, Pete is also a painter of no small fame. He is close friends with all his teammates but he holds a special place in his heart for Kitty Pryde - who is known as Shadow Cat. The two have been dating for some time now leading some of their teammates to speculate what the future holds in store for them.

History[]

Early Life[]

Piotr Nikolaievitch Rasputin (Russian: Пётр Николаевич Распутин), often called Peter, is a Russian mutant.[2] He grew up on a farm in Siberia with his sister, Illyana. His early life appears to be similar to his Earth-616 counterpart. Much like in that universe, Piotr’s powers manifested when an out-of-control tractor threatened to crush his sister.[2] Piotr sprung into action to save her; at that moment, his mutant powers manifested for the first time, and he turned into his organic steel form.[2] He was able to destroy the tractor, saving his sister in the process.

At some point after this, Professor Xavier recruited Piotr to be part of the X-Men, where he took on the codename of Colossus.[2] Much of Colossus’s tenure with the X-Men is not shown. He was likely present on various iterations of the team based on the selection of costumes at his disposal.

X-Men Legends[]

The Rescue of Allison Crestmere[]

Colossus was on the X-Jet during the mission to rescue Allison Crestmere from Mystique's Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.[4] He sat at the back while Allison was distressed about her future as a mutant. At some point before the mission to the HAARP facility, Colossus took a leave of absence from the X-Men to return to Russia. His sister, Illyana, had fallen ill, and he wanted to be there to take care of her.[5]

Boshnoy Nuclear Power Plant[]

When Magneto, Havok, and the Acolytes attacked the Boshnoy Nuclear Power Plant in Siberia, Colossus went there to intervene.[6] Magneto’s attack caused the reactor to reach critical mass.[7] Colossus was able to hold up the regulator to prevent a nuclear explosion, but the weight was substantial enough to cause him severe distress. When the X-Men arrived, he was struggling to hold up the weight. The X-Men were able to repair the brackets that held the regulator in place, saving Colossus, the power plant, and the surrounding area.[8]

When speaking to the X-Men, Colossus told them how he had overheard the Acolytes discussing that Magneto was creating gravitic ions in the reactor's core.[9] He also revealed that he would not be able to rejoin the team because of Illyana's illness.[5] The X-Men suggested that they travel to Muir Island to see if Moira MacTaggart and Forge could help Illyana, and Colossus happily agreed.[10]

Muir Island[]

On Muir Island, Moira began to investigate Illyana's illness while Forge worked on a life support system to keep her alive. Moira couldn’t find anything physically wrong with Illyana and said that there was no reason for her to be in a coma.[11] Illyana’s body was beginning to shut down, which concerned Colossus, but Moira assured him that Forge was likely putting the finishing touches on the life support system at that moment.[12]

While waiting for Illyana’s condition to stabilize, Colossus was properly introduced to Magma for the first time.[13] Despite the grim circumstances around his sister, Colossus managed to remain optimistic.[14] Although Forge was having difficulties with the Muir Island computer, Magma was able to access the core and make the necessary repairs to allow Forge to complete the life support system for Illyana, saving her life.[15] Moira decided that it would be best to send Illyana to Professor Xavier at the X-Mansion, and Colossus decided to join them.[16]

Return to the X-Men[]

Colossus later spoke with Magma out in the back yard of the X-Mansion. He told her a bit more about his backstory.[17] He also expressed his concerns about Illyana. Magma did her best to reassure him, but Colossus knew he couldn’t rest easy until Illyana’s condition improved.[18]

Colossus’s first available mission back was during the GRSO attack on the X-Mansion.[19] After helping the X-Men thwart the attack, he was present at the mission briefing for Professor Xavier’s journey into the Astral Plane with Jean Grey and Emma Frost. During this briefing, Moira and Xavier announced that they had discovered the cause of Illyana’s coma: her mind no longer inhabited her body and was being held on the Astral Plane.[20] This confused Colossus, as Illyana had no psychic powers; Xavier agreed, and hoped that their investigation into the Astral Plane would yield some answers.[21]

Emma Frost and Jean Grey were able to rescue Illyana from the Astral Plane, saving her life,[22] but lost Professor Xavier to the Shadow King in the process.[23] Xavier's mind became trapped in the Astral Plane in a similar manner to Illyana. The X-Men had little time to strategize over this situation, and Colossus didn’t get an opportunity to reunite with his sister; Magneto arrived at the mansion and demanded to speak with Xavier.[24] Colossus was one of the X-Men who were available to meet with Magneto to see what he wanted. During this meeting, Sentinels attacked the mansion, capturing Magneto.[25]

Reunion with Illyana[]

After fending off the Sentinels, Colossus was at last able to reunite with the conscious Illyana. He also introduced her to Magma.[26] Illyana complained about having to remain on bedrest in the subbasement and said that she wished to feel the sun.[27] She joked about the over-protectiveness of her brother but was happy that she was able to see him again.[28]

While speaking to Colossus and Magma, Illyana was able to explain some of what she experienced in the Astral Plane. She described how Shadow King gloated about using her as bait for Professor Xavier.[29] He had also said that with Xavier out of the way, another individual would be able to carry out their plan.[30] She was unsure of who this individual was, but knew it was someone in the real world.[31]

Colossus was next available for the second mission to the Morlock Sewers. The X-Men had discovered the location of Asteroid M, but were not able to access it due to its magnetic and psionic shielding.[32] Gambit revealed that Asteroid M could only be reached through the Mount, which was could be found in the Morlock Sewers.[33] During this mission, the X-Men freed Healer from Marrow's captivity in the sewers.[34] He revealed that the Brotherhood were using Gateway to reach the Mount.[35] The heroes arrived at the Mount, where they battled Avalanche and Sabretooth. They were unable to make it to Asteroid M after Avalanche destroyed the teleporter.[36]

Magneto's Attack of Earth[]

After Magneto covered the Earth and stated his demands, the X-Men had to deal with three simultaneous crises: the New York City riots, the GRSO invasion of the Morlock Tunnels, and Juggernaut's rampage on Muir Island. Colossus was available for all 3 missions.

In the riots, the X-Men faced waves of Sentinels, who were openly hunting mutants in the streets. The team managed to rescue all the mutants in the area. During this mission, they received assistance from Psylocke, who rejoined the team, and rescued a young Bishop.

In the Morlock Sewers, the X-Men met Healer, who explained the severity of the situation. Marrow had left the sewers with her followers, and GRSO soldiers were able to enter the sewers through an abandoned tunnel and attack the defenseless Morlocks. The X-Men battled the GRSO soldiers throughout the sewers while destroying their means of entry.

After defeating the GRSO invasion, the X-Men met with Healer again. Healer revealed that Marrow had returned to the sewers and was trying to persuade more Morlocks to join her cause. He urged the X-Men to speak with her and attempt to reason with her. The X-Men met with Marrow, who immediately attacked the team. The team defeated her after an intense battle. Marrow was initially resistant to the X-Men and wanted to stay allied with the Brotherhood, but she decided to return to the sewers after the X-Men informed her of the GRSO invasion of the sewers.

Lastly, the X-Men traveled to Muir Island, where Juggernaut was chasing after Forge. The team defeated Juggernaut and imprisoned him in the brig. Juggernaut revealed that he was hired by an anonymous client to destroy the Astral Gate. Juggernaut assumed that Forge knew where it would be, and that prompted him to attack Muir Island. When the X-Men revealed that the Astral Gate wasn't at Muir Island, Juggernaut grew frustrated and threatened them. The X-Men couldn't figure out who had hired Juggernaut. Forge was stumped as well, but concluded that it couldn't be Magneto, as Magneto preferred to deal with things himself.

Return to the Astral Plane[]

After returning to the X-Mansion, Colossus was present at a gathering in the War Room, where Cyclops asked for updates on the situations at hand. Beast revealed that he had not yet discovered a way to get past Asteroid M's shields, and Jean mentioned that Psylocke's presence on the team was helping them come up with a solution to rescuing Professor Xavier.

Beast was soon able to figure out how the Astral Gate worked, which allowed the team to venture into the Astral Plane to attempt to rescue Professor Xavier. Colossus was available to join the team on this mission.

When the team reached the Astral Plane, they found themselves in the Xavier Nexus, which guarded the entrance to Professor Xavier's mind. They found that the doorway to Xavier's mind was locked and concluded that Shadow King had fragmented Xavier's mind. To rescue Xavier, the team needed to find the pieces of Xavier's mind in different parts of the Astral Plane. They were able to collect Professor Xavier's symbols for Honor, Wisdom, and Knowledge after defeating Dark Blob, Dark Avalanche, and Dark Pyro. With the pieces in place, the team was able to enter Professor Xavier's mind.

Within Professor Xavier's mind, the team entered the Colosseum. There, they saw Xavier, with Shadow King posing as his trusted advisor. Shadow King convinced Xavier that he was an emperor, and the X-Men were assassins sent to kill him. Shadow King convinced Xavier to send out his "Champions", four psychic entities based on four X-Men. One of these was the Champion of Rhodes, who was based on Colossus. The X-Men were able to defeat the gladiators, which prompted Xavier to awaken from Shadow King's control. Shadow King teleported away with Xavier, but the X-Men were satisfied in knowing that they had cleared Xavier's mind.

The Sentinel Factory[]

After returning from the Astral Plane, the X-Men were immediately briefed on their mission to the Sentinel Factory. Colossus attended the briefing. Beast had a plan to take a Sentinel guidance system and a navigational controller, which would allow the X-Jet to travel through Magneto's asteroid blockage and to Asteroid M. Colossus was available to join the team on this mission.

After arriving at the facility, the team battled their way through tanks and GRSO soldiers to get inside. Within the facility, they were met with additional GRSO resistance. As they made their way through, they encountered a scientist who revealed that General Kincaid was responsible for the facility.

The X-Men progressed through the factory, shutting down the assembly line and defeating Sentinels. They were able to find the equipment that they needed. While leaving the facility, the team encountered the new Sentinel Advanced Prototypes that General Kincaid was rushing into production. The team decided to travel to the lower levels of the factory to investigate.

In the labs of the lower levels, the team battled more GRSO Soldiers, Sentinel Weapons Platforms, and additional Sentinel Advanced prototypes. They found a document that indicated that General Kincaid had ordered the construction of the Astral Gate, and speculated that he was responsible for Illyana's earlier capture. They also found a prison where General Kincaid had captured Gateway and several other Morlocks. The team liberated the Morlocks and helped them escape through Gateway's portal, after which they encountered Kincaid in person. They chased after him, but he collapsed a portion of the factory to escape.

Rescuing Xavier[]

After the events at the Sentinel Factory, the X-Men geared up to return to the Astral Plane once more to save Professor Xavier. Colossus was one of the available team members for this mission.

The team battled through various areas within the Astral Plane before encountering the captured Professor Xavier. They were able to free his mental energy, and Professor Xavier battled the Shadow King. Xavier defeated the Shadow King, banishing him once again, and the team left the Astral Plane.

Assault on Asteroid M[]

The team regrouped one more time at the X-Mansion to prepare to assault Asteroid M and defeat Magneto. Colossus was one of the available team members for this mission.

The team infiltrated Asteroid M through the airlock, where Emma Frost was able to trick Toad into opening the door. The team battled the Acolytes in the lower levels of the base, and then made their way to the upper levels. The team battled through more waves of Acolytes and rescued Havok.

Soon, the team encountered Magneto, Sabretooth, and Mystique for their final confrontation. The X-Men battled against Magneto and his lieutenants, and finally managed to defeat their opponents. They didn't get much time to celebrate, however, as the Sentinels arrived at Asteroid M to destroy it.

The team battled through waves of Sentinels Advanced, but the devastating attack proved to be too much for Asteroid M, which began falling to Earth. Magma volunteered to use the Gravitron to stop Asteroid M from hitting New York City. The team battled their way to the control room to let Magma save the day.

Before making it to the control room, General Kincaid revealed himself in the Master Mold armor. Kincaid revealed that he planned to let Asteroid M fall on New York City and let mutants take the blame, which would cause humanity to eradicate mutants once and for all.

The team fought a hard battle against Kincaid's Master Mold armor and his Sentinels and were finally able to defeat him. Magma was able to use the Gravitron to stop Asteroid M from impacting on the Earth's surface. In one last push, she cleared the Earth of the surrounding asteroid field. The X-Men were hailed as heroes for saving the Earth, and General Kincaid was imprisoned for his crimes.

Between Games[]

Colossus's activities between X-Men Legends and X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse are not known. However, he did switch to a slightly modified outfit between the two games.

X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse[]

Military Prison Outpost[]

When playing on hard difficulty, Colossus is an available team member during the mission to rescue Professor Xavier in the Military Prison Outpost.

Genosha[]

Colossus is first available as part of the team in Genosha, where he joins the team stationed in The Sanctuary.

X-Mansion[]

Colossus, along with other members of the X-Men, return to the ruins of the destroyed X-Mansion. Some surviving (NPC) members have also sheltered themselves within the remains of the mansion. Kitty Pryde is one of the X-Men to survive Apocalypse's attacks, and she has a special conversation with Colossus should he talk to her at the mansion. The conversation focuses around Kitty's concern about Colossus hanging around Scarlet Witch.

Powers[]

Colossus’s abilities allow him to transform his body into an organic steel-like substance, granting him superhuman strength and a high degree of resistance to injury. He is among the strongest and most durable of the X-Men.

Trivia[]

  • In X-Men Legends, Colossus is the only character to have a retro costume but not appear in a flashback mission.
  • Although Colossus has a listed height of 7'5" in his metal form and 6'6" in his human form, his NPC versions in X-Men Legends are the same height as standard characters. This is likely due to an oversight, as most characters must be individually scaled through code in the game. In X-Men Legends II, this is corrected for both his mission briefing NPC and his unused standard NPC.
  • Colossus is tied with Wolverine for the most costumes in both X-Men Legends and X-Men Legends II (4 and 7, respectively).
  • Colossus's unused bio in X-Men Legends II mentions that his American friends call him "Pete". This is never shown in-game, and he is referred to as "Peter" in dialogue. In the comics, Colossus is also usually called "Peter" rather than "Pete" by his teammates.
  • Despite being brothers, Colossus and Mikhail have no special dialogue when they meet.
