Real Name: Robert Drake
Bobby Drake grew up in the suburbs of New York City. When he was 15 years old, his mutant ability manifested. Terrified of what might happen to his parents if the mutant-hunting Sentinels came for him, Bobby ran away from home.
Assembling a team of young mutants to help him stop the coming war between humans and Homo superior, Professor Charles Xavier located Bobby using the psychic amplifier Cerebro. Confused and frightened by his burgeoning powers, the teenager made his way to New York City's Times Square and hopped on a Greyhound bus. Unfortunately for Bobby, the X-Men weren't the only ones interested in his whereabouts; the Sentinels were closing in, as well.
The android assassins seized the bus Bobby was on, then destroyed it--but not before the Beast had carried him to safety. As a Sentinel beheaded by Cyclops staggered toward a crowd of bystanders, Bobby used his mutant ability to freeze it in place. Impressed by this feat, the Beast dubbed him "Iceman."
Iceman possesses the ability to freeze any moisture in the air around him into unusually hard ice. Also, he can lower his external and internal body temperature without harm to himself, thereby radiating intense cold. Hailing from a small town on Long Island, New York, Bobby Drake was much like any other youth - boisterous and mischievous. Then one night he he was forced to use his ice-making ability to protect a friend from assailants. Bystanders were so shocked and outraged at Bobby's display of mutant power that they formed a mob. Luckily, bobby escaped unharmed and was able to join the X-men.
